The Citizens for Transformation (CFT) movement led by human rights activist and former minister Timothy Mtambo has dismissed reports circulating on social media that the group is organizing post-election demonstrations.
In a statement released on Sunday, CFT Publicity Secretary Kinea Mlowoka describes the reports as baseless and misleading, stressing that both the organization and its leader have no involvement in any plans to incite unrest.
“Our focus as a movement remains on promoting peace, accountability, and progress not on dividing the nation through falsehoods,” reads the statement in part.
Mtambo has however, echoed the same message on his official Facebook page, denouncing the allegations as ‘false and malicious propaganda.’
“We gain nothing from stirring unnecessary tension. What our nation needs right now is unity, focus, and faith in the democratic path we’ve chosen. Like the President has appealed to us, we must ‘come to serve the will of the people,’ not destroy it through lies and misinformation,”says Mtambo.
CFT has since called on the public to verify information before sharing it online, warning that misinformation risks undermining national peace and stability.
In 2019 to early 2020, Mtambo through CFT led demonstrations to force authorities hold fresh presidential election following the irregularities that marred 2019 general elections.
