Dr. Eneya hails Unicaf University for driving digital transformation in higher education

The Secretary for Higher Education, Dr. Levis Eneya, has commended Unicaf University for its innovative digital learning strategies that are helping expand access to higher education in Malawi.
Dr. Eneya said the University’s approach aligns perfectly with the government’s commitment to advancing Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) across both public and private universities — a key pillar in ensuring inclusive and equitable access to tertiary education.
Speaking during Unicaf University’s 6th Graduation Ceremony held on Tuesday, 14 October 2025, at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Dr. Eneya praised the institution for breaking barriers and creating opportunities for learners who might otherwise have missed out on higher education.
> “Unicaf University’s digital innovation has opened doors for many who could not have pursued higher education through traditional systems,” he said.
Held under the theme “Educate, Elevate, Empower Without Borders,” the ceremony celebrated graduates who completed their studies through the University’s flexible online learning platform, which connects students across Malawi and beyond.
Dr. Eneya emphasised that embracing technology is essential for Malawi’s socio-economic progress.
> “If Malawi and other African countries are to realise their development aspirations, we must engage with and become experts in digital approaches across all sectors of the economy,” he said. “The best place to start promoting an understanding and training in new technologies is within the education system.”
He further highlighted several government initiatives aimed at strengthening the higher education ecosystem — including the expansion of infrastructure in public universities to create more learning and accommodation spaces, the establishment of the Open University of Malawi, the development of the Higher Education Bill, and the implementation of the Malawi Qualifications Framework.
Dr. Eneya’s remarks underscored the government’s continued drive to make higher education more accessible, innovative, and aligned with global digital trends.
