As part of its corporate social responsibility, the Greenbelt Authority (GBA) on Saturday donated food and non-food items worth K4 million to Thyolo District Hospital, with the pediatric, isolation, and TB wards being the main beneficiaries.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, GBA Public Relations Officer Sam Majamanda said the donation demonstrates the Authority’s commitment to supporting communities beyond its agricultural projects.
> “We recognize that some of the farmers we work with and their families may also require medical care from time to time. This gesture is our way of giving back to the community and ensuring that patients receive the support they need,” said Majamanda.
Receiving the items, the hospital’s Nutrition and Rehabilitation Unit Officer-in-Charge, Haneefa Mayenda, described the donation as timely, noting that the hospital has been facing challenges in providing adequate food for patients.
> “Every patient under medical care needs proper nutrition to recover well. These supplies will go a long way in improving our service delivery,” said Mayenda.
The Greenbelt Authority is currently implementing large-scale mega farm projects in several districts across Malawi and plans to extend the initiative to Thyolo in the near future.
