More than 40 percent of people in Chiradzulu Midima Constituency are currently facing hunger, a worrying situation that has prompted the area’s Member of Parliament, Jean Mathanga, to appeal for urgent support from well wishers, organizations and development partners.
Mathanga, who also serves as Minister of Energy and Mining, made the appeal on Saturday during a food distribution exercise organized by Faizan Global Relief Foundation (FGRF) in the constituency.
The humanitarian initiative saw the organization donate food packs to 1,500 people, many of whom have been struggling to access basic meals due to worsening food shortages in the area.
Speaking during the event, Mathanga said the hunger situation has been worsened by climate shocks that have negatively affected farming activities and household food security.
She explained that unpredictable weather patterns and poor harvests have left many families without adequate food, forcing them to rely on assistance from well wishers.
The legislator expressed gratitude to Faizan Global Relief Foundation for responding to the needs of vulnerable families, describing the donation as a significant relief to struggling households.
Mathanga further appealed to other organizations, individuals and development partners to emulate the gesture by extending food assistance to people in the constituency.
She emphasized that more support is needed to reach many households that are still struggling to put food on the table.
One of the beneficiaries, Simion Muhasuwa from the area, confirmed that hunger remains a serious challenge in the constituency.
Muhasuwa described the donation as timely, saying the food packs will help many families who have been surviving with little or no food.
Apart from distributing food packs, Faizan Global Relief Foundation also donated walking sticks to people living with physical disabilities in the area.
FGRF Director of Communications, Ibrahim Omar, said the gesture reflects the foundation’s continued commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and improving the welfare of those in need.
