The High Commissioner of India to Malawi, Amararam Gujar, has called on farmers across the country to embrace Nano urea fertilizer technology, describing it as a game-changing innovation that could help boost crop yields and reduce hunger.
Gujar made the remarks on Tuesday in the area of Senior Chief Ndindi within the Chipoka Extension Planning Area (EPA) in Salima District, during a field demonstration showcasing the use of Nano Urea.
He explained that Nano Urea, an innovative liquid fertilizer, has proven to be highly efficient in improving soil fertility and increasing agricultural productivity when properly applied.
> “Nano Urea is a breakthrough technology that can transform Malawi’s agriculture by enhancing crop production and ensuring food security,” Gujar said.
On his part, Wellington Banda, Regional Business Manager for the Smallholder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund of Malawi (SFFRFM), urged farmers to make full use of Nano Urea, noting its affordability and user-friendly nature.
> “This fertilizer is easy to apply using a sprayer and requires less energy compared to conventional methods,” Banda said.
Local farmer Harrison Mkango from Chipoka EPA also shared his experience, saying he has already reaped positive results after using Nano Urea on his tomato, bean, and maize crops.
> “I’ve seen the difference. My crops look healthier, and the yields are improving,” he said.
Nano Urea is typically applied after NPK fertilizer and is designed to increase crop productivity while reducing environmental impact and input costs.
The initiative reflects growing collaboration between Malawi and India in promoting sustainable agricultural innovations to strengthen food security and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
