Malawi Congress Party (MCP) strongman from Mvera in Dowa District, Rodgers Kamphangala, has urged the newly formed Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government to swiftly investigate what he describes as “dubious” three-year contracts signed by Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of various Statutory Corporations during the power transition.
Kamphangala claimed that some outgoing government officials allegedly took advantage of the transition between President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to seal long-term deals aimed at frustrating the incoming administration.
He warned the DPP-led government that failure to act immediately could lead to “systematic sabotage” of key government projects by those seeking to undermine the new leadership.
Kamphangala, a well-known MCP loyalist, nonetheless applauded government’s move to suspend heads of MACRA, MBC, and NEEF, but advised that the probe should be extended to other critical institutions, including MRA, ACB, and the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
He reminded the public that Professor Mutharika had previously written to MACRA during the run-up to the September 16, 2025, general elections, demanding that MBC stop airing the controversial Timvetse programme, which allegedly insulted and ridiculed him.
“Professor Mutharika said he did not receive a response from MACRA and MBC continued to air the programme for their own benefit, disregarding the fact that both the radio and television station are funded by taxpayers’ money,”
│ Kamphangala recalled.
He made it clearly that these people Mr. George Kasakula and Daud Suleiman will find a place to work from the 16th September 2025 and this is October 2025; Kamphangala has found no element of politics leading to their suspensions.
The MCP diehard said Kasakula and Suleiman deserve suspension from their duties because they proved already that they cannot work with someone who is not of their choice, advising the two to follow President Chakwera wherever he is as their team.
“All those who were working with Kasakula in anchoring Timvetse on MBC must be transferred to other duties or sent to MCP headquarters,”
said Kamphangala.
Turning to the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF), Kamphangala accused its head, Humphrey Mdyetseni, of distributing fertilizer loans to MCP loyalists some without gardens while legitimate rural farmers were left out.
He has since called for a complete shutdown and possible disbandment of NEEF, claiming that the fund has been turned into a political tool.
“Ever since that fund was created, those benefiting are politicians and State House staff, while villagers are being forced to clap hands for nonsense,”
│ charged Kamphangala.
