As Malawians gear up to celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend, the Malawi Police Service (MPS) has rolled out intensified security measures nationwide to ensure the celebrations remain safe and peaceful.
Superintendent Alfred Chimthere, National Police Deputy PRO, revealed that the Service has ramped up deployment of both uniformed and plain-clothed officers across all regions. Traffic enforcement operations have been strengthened, while intelligence gathering in crime-prone areas has been intensified.
“All police stations have been instructed to maintain high visibility through day and night patrols, snap road checks, and targeted surveillance. We are paying special attention to entertainment venues, beaches, resorts, lodges, and drinking joints where large gatherings are expected,” Chimthere said.
The MPS is also collaborating closely with key stakeholders to enhance coordination and timely sharing of information, a move aimed at preventing criminal activities before they occur.
In addition, the police are urging all citizens planning to travel to Lake Malawi or other recreational areas to strictly adhere to water safety guidelines. Swimmers are strongly advised to wear life jackets at all times to avoid drowning incidents.
“We call on everyone to remain alert and report any suspicious individuals, vehicles, or activities to the nearest police station,” Chimthere emphasized.
The Malawi Police Service extends its heartfelt wishes to all mothers and Malawians, hoping for a joyful and crime-free Mother’s Day.
