Muvi wa Chilungamo Revolutionary Party (MRP) has distanced itself from the fake letter circulating in various media platforms cautioning the DPP led government of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to stop politicizing national maize procurement.
Media platforms were on Wednesday flooded with news that President Professor Mutharika held discussions with his counterpart President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia to procure 200,000 metric tonnes of maize from Zambia.
In a fake letter circulating, the MRP has been quoted expressing its deep concern over government decision to purchase 200,000 metric tonnes of maize from Zambia at a time Malawian farmers have abundant harvests within the country exceeding such quantities.
The letter said the import decision will necessitate significant foreign exchange expenditure, a resource Malawi critically lacks that instead of importing, the government should purchase the maize from local farmers.
In the letter, President Professor Mutharika and his DPP government has been advised to reconsider this import plan, and instead, supporting Malawian local farmers, calling on all Malawians to reflect on leadership choices impacting their collective future.
“President Mutharika’s Administration is willing to punish farmers from the Central Region who are known to have substantial maize reserves, an approach seen as divisive and tribalistic,” reads the fake letter in part.
In his reaction to the fake letter, MRP’s Secretary General Greyson Mikuwa, has described the letter in circulation as just a propaganda to tarnish the good image of the party and its Revolutionary leader, Bantu Saunders Jumah the Utopian.
Mikuwa said the Revolutionary Party finds it too early to criticize President Professor Mutharika who has just assumed office few weeks ago and considering the hunger situation in the country, it is necessary for government to purchase the maize from Zambia to support the hunger-stricken people.
“Professor Mutharika should be given time to work and change the country’s status quo on food security,” he said.
The Secretary General said currently, the Revolutionary Party is busy getting itself organized to move on with its moto of MINDSET CHANGE to Malawians so that in 2030 the citizens vote for the right type of leaders into government.
Mikuwa has finally assured Malawians that the Revolutionary Party will be there to congratulate wherever President Professor Mutharika and his government will do well and wherever he doesn’t do well, they will not just watch and clap hands for nonsense.
