Newly elected Speaker of Parliament, Sameer Suleman, has pledged to serve Malawians with dedication, integrity and impartiality as he takes on one of the country’s most influential political roles.
In his acceptance speech, Suleman urged Members of Parliament to put aside partisan interests and unite in addressing Malawi’s pressing challenges including the struggling economy and growing food insecurity.
“This is not the time for politics of division. Malawians are looking to us for solutions, not conflicts,” said Suleman, emphasizing the need for collective national effort.
He further assured the nation that he would uphold the dignity and decorum of the August House, adding that accountability and transparency will guide his leadership.
Suleman extended his appreciation to President Peter Mutharika for the trust and confidence placed in him, saying the position comes with great responsibility and expectations from all Malawians.
The new Speaker triumphed over Peter Dimba of the Malawi Congress Party, Lasten Vigaro and Sandram Scot in a tightly contested race.
Suleman also expressed gratitude to fellow MPs for their confidence in his leadership, noting that the next phase of parliamentary work will demand unity and a renewed sense of patriotism.
“The people have placed their faith in us. Let us prove that this House can rise above party lines to serve every Malawian with honor,” he added.
As Parliament opens a new chapter under his leadership, many will be watching to see if Suleman’s promise of impartiality and reform will set a new tone for Malawi’s political discourse.
