All eyes will be on Bingu National Stadium this afternoon as the Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the Scorchers, face Angola in a do-or-die WAFCON qualifier return leg.
Sports analyst Henry Gome says this is a defining moment a must-win showdown if Malawi is to make history by qualifying for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for the very first time.
Gome urged the Scorchers to capitalize on the momentum from last week’s goalless draw in Luanda, describing the team’s display as “spirited and full of promise.” He believes home advantage could be the game-changer Malawi needs to write a new chapter in women’s football.
On the technical side, Coach Lovemore Fazili has praised the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) for offering free entry to the open stands a move he says will turn Bingu National Stadium into a fortress of noise and passion.
“The girls are ready. The energy is high. We know what this means for Malawi,” Fazili said, exuding confidence ahead of the 3pm kickoff.
The Scorchers, who have shown steady progress in recent years, are determined to make the nation proud and secure their maiden ticket to Morocco 2026.
With the home crowd behind them, the atmosphere in Lilongwe is expected to be electric drums, chants, and flags waving high as the Scorchers chase a historic qualification on home soil.
