In a heartwarming gesture of community support, Umodzi Sacco has reached out to Malingunde School for the Blind in Lilongwe with a donation worth over K3 million, reaffirming its commitment to promoting inclusive education in Malawi.
Speaking during the handover ceremony on Thursday, Umodzi Sacco General Manager, Elizabeth Chinjala, said the organisation believes true progress is achieved when no one is left behind.
> “As a people-driven institution, we are committed to giving back to the communities that support us—especially to vulnerable groups who face unique challenges in accessing basic needs,” she said.
Her words were met with gratitude from the school’s Teacher-in-Charge, Vincent Mathanki, who described the donation as timely.
> “This support has come at the right moment. We have been struggling to provide for our learners, and this gesture will make a huge difference,” Mathanki said with a smile.
Also present was Lilongwe Inclusive Education Coordinator, Lissie Jim, who applauded Umodzi Sacco for standing alongside government efforts to ensure that all children, regardless of ability, have access to quality education.
> “Partnerships like these remind us that inclusive education is everyone’s responsibility,” she said.
Malingunde School for the Blind provides education and support to learners with visual impairments from several districts across Malawi.
The institution continues to depend on well-wishers and corporate partners to help meet its day-to-day operational needs.
