The University of Malawi (UNIMA) has emphasized that the country’s Malawi 2063 vision can only be achieved if graduates from higher learning institutions translate their academic knowledge into practical solutions and collaborate effectively with industry players.
Speaking in Zomba on Saturday during the launch of The Pioneers’ Pen anthology, Head of the Media and Communication Studies Department, Dr. Anthony Gunde, said graduates hold the key to national transformation through innovation and applied skills.
> “The anthology is rich with creative and intellectual works that reflect ideas crucial for Malawi’s socio-economic development,” Dr. Gunde said.
The newly launched collection, edited by Gracious Mulinga, features poems, short stories, and speeches written by 18 alumni from the Media and Communication Studies and Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Cultural Studies (Baccs) class of 2015.
Mulinga said the publication showcases the diverse talents and voices that Unima continues to nurture.
Fourth-year Baccs student majoring in public relations, Natasha Kamanga, described the initiative as a source of motivation for continuing students.
> “This anthology has reminded us that communication specialists play a critical role in shaping Malawi’s development journey,” Kamanga said.
The Pioneers’ Pen anthology, published by Montfort Media Limited, is available at the University of Malawi and Montfort Media bookshops.
