A united front of 21 women’s football clubs has emerged in Malawi, with their General Secretaries jointly signing a formal complaint over the handling of the Betpawa sponsorship in the newly introduced Women’s Regional League.
The petition, addressed to the Malawi National Council of Sports and copied to the Football Association of Malawi and Betpawa, signals growing unrest among clubs regarding financial transparency in the league.
Unlike previous isolated complaints in Malawian football, this development stands out as a collective action, bringing together clubs from the Northern, Central and Southern regions under one voice.
The signatories, all serving as General Secretaries of their respective clubs, opted for a unified endorsement rather than listing individual names, a move seen as strengthening their position and avoiding division.
Clubs behind the petition include Ndirande Soccer Giants, Ekhaya FC, Chitoliro Heroines and Allan Ladies, among others, representing a broad spectrum of the women’s game.
Also backing the statement are Bvumbwe Women FC, Zomba City Lioness, Nowaudzi Queens and FOMO, highlighting that concerns cut across both established and emerging teams.Further support comes from CY Sisters, Green City, Lahwe Sisters and Rumphi KK Academy, underlining the nationwide reach of the grievance.
Northern Region sides such as Mzuzu Hammers Queens and Hungry Lions FC are equally part of the signatories, reinforcing the regional balance in the complaint. The list also features Cleck Sporting FC, FACT Women FC and Blue Eagles Ladies FC, adding weight from competitive sides within the league setup.
Rounding up the signatories are Heroes Sporting Academy, Chitinde Queens, Dedza Dynamos Super Queens and Kamuzu Institute for Sport FC.
By signing as a bloc, the clubs are sending a clear message to authorities that their concerns are not isolated incidents but a shared experience affecting the majority of participants.
The coordinated action now places pressure on relevant stakeholders to respond, as the clubs push for accountability and full implementation of the sponsorship agreement.
