Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) operating at Pacific Towers say the modern business complex has changed the face of trading in Limbe, giving traders a cleaner, safer and more organised environment to conduct business.
Constructed by Pacific Limited in 2022 at a cost of K30 billion, the facility was established to respond to the growing demand for structured commercial spaces in one of Malawi’s busiest trading centres.
For years, many traders in Limbe operated in open spaces where rain, dust and excessive heat affected business operations and damaged merchandise. However, business owners say those challenges are now becoming a thing of the past.
Trader Aisha Mussa Iman described the development as a turning point for small businesses, saying the availability of proper shelter has brought consistency to daily operations and improved customer confidence.
She said unlike before, traders can now conduct business without worrying about sudden weather changes disrupting sales, adding that the environment has also become more attractive to customers.
Electronics dealer Ishmael Chizinga said the modern infrastructure has transformed Limbe into a more competitive commercial destination, noting that customers now enjoy a shopping experience comparable to that of bigger cities in the region.
Chizinga further called for similar investments in other parts of Malawi, saying SMEs play a major role in the country’s economy and deserve better trading spaces that match modern business demands.
Customers have also welcomed the transformation, describing the complex as a convenient “one-stop” trading centre where different goods and services can easily be accessed under one roof.
Management at Pacific Towers says all shop spaces inside the complex have already been fully occupied, a development they say reflects the increasing appetite for modern business infrastructure among Malawian entrepreneurs.
The company has since disclosed plans to expand the concept to other cities, including Lilongwe, as economic observers continue to hail private-sector investments like Pacific Towers as key drivers in modernising Malawi’s urban commercial landscape.
